How a Blackjack Hand Plays Out
Place Your Bet
Choose your chip size and click the betting area. Minimum R10, maximum varies by table.
Cards Are Dealt
You receive 2 cards face up. The dealer gets 1 face up and 1 face down (the 'hole card').
Decide Your Action
Based on your cards and the dealer's visible card, choose: Hit (take another card), Stand (keep your hand), Double (double your bet, take one more card), or Split (if you have a pair).
Dealer Plays
After you stand, the dealer reveals their hole card and must hit on 16 or below and stand on 17 or above.
Compare Hands
Closest to 21 wins. If tied (push), your bet is returned. Blackjack (21 with 2 cards) pays 3:2.
Player Actions Explained
Hit
Take another card. Use when your total is low (11 or under) or when you need to improve against a strong dealer card.
Stand
Keep your current hand. Use when your total is 17+ or when the dealer shows a weak card (2-6) and you have 12+.
Double Down
Double your bet and receive exactly one more card. Best used on hard 10 or 11 when the dealer shows a weak card.
Split
If dealt a pair, split into two separate hands. Always split Aces and 8s. Never split 10s or 5s.
Blackjack Variants at Springbok Casino
Classic Blackjack: Standard rules, lowest house edge (~0.5% with basic strategy). Best for beginners.
European Blackjack: Dealer doesn't peek for blackjack. Slightly different strategy required.
Perfect Pairs: Side bet on whether your first two cards form a pair. Fun but higher house edge.
Face Up 21: Both dealer cards visible. Different strategy — you can see the full dealer hand.
Pontoon: British variant with different terminology (twist = hit, stick = stand). Pays 2:1 for pontoon.
Super 21: Diamond blackjack pays 2:1. Late surrender allowed. More flexible but slightly higher house edge.
